Cultural Activities

Agape offers a number of cultural activities for learners, consisting of the following:

Chess
The club currently consists of mostly young players. Rules and the necessary skills are taught to our learners by an outside professional. Once they are considered to be competent enough, they are allowed to verse other players in the club. Learners who want to participate in tournaments are allowed to do so privately; Achievements are acknowledged by the school.

Recorders
Mastering the recorder allows them to continue with any other musical instrument afterwards. They are also taught the basic principles and disciplines regarding being a musician and are given opportunities to play on stage at various events.

Art Classes
The juniors and seniors have art classes once a week. These are classes that are additional to these in the curriculum.

Quiz
It is a fun filled evening in which general knowledge is tested. Learners take part, learning a lot of new and interesting facts. Categories include sport, history, geography, arts, music, nature and news.

All learners from Gr 3 - 7 take part in an in-house quiz to select a team that will represent the school at the annual Inter School Quiz.

Choir
Learners receive comprehensive vocal training. This training is based on a classical approach wherein voice fitness is obtained and the full singing scope of the voice is developed. The highlight of the year is a Choir festival where many schools participate.

Eisteddfod
The vision of the National Eisteddfod is to encourage our youth to participate in the performing arts. It's a platform that builds self confidence in the learners. A participant is rewarded with a certificate or diploma for their performance. Recipients of diplomas are invited to enter for the National Eisteddfod Academy Awards, where finalists compete for cash prizes and bursaries. Visit www.eisteddfod.co.za

Leadership Development
Grade 11 learners go on an annual leadership development excursion, where they participate in various activities that are aimed at developing and identifying leadership potential.

Talent Show
An annual talent show is held to showcase the talents of the learners in front of an audience. All learners are encouraged to enter.

Concerts
Every second year the school holds a concert in which all the children are involved. This is a production done with excellence. In the year when we don't have a concert we have a Carols by Candlelight evening on the sports field where we have a picnic and are entertained by the children.

The evening ends off with a carol sung by all.
